Cute little vintage cabinet in pale grey

Hope you are going okay. We are currently in lockdown in Sydney and it’s a bit of a drag isn’t it. I am getting vaccinated next week and very happy about that. We are going well to be fair. My main concern with work is storage for pieces I have sold for people who can’t come pick them up - space is getting tight :)

One piece I sold recently is this cute slimline vintage cabinet. I did a really good sand and clean and then primed and painted in satin enamel - beautiful blue on the interior and pale grey on the exterior.

With the bifold doors and internal drawers this piece offers good storage for a slim spot. I had to think carefully when deciding colours for this piece as the drawers are lined with a lovely bright blue velvet. I quite often paint inferiors of cabinets in duck egg but felt that would clash with the drawer lining so I used this beautiful blue called “Blowout”. It was the perfect choice.

This was a piece where there are many ways on finishing it: solid like I did, highlight the mouldings with white paint, distress, glaze, black wax etc? I ended up leaving it solid and plain as I felt there was enough going on with it and less is often more.

But it’s all personal choice when you are painting a piece - there is no right or wrong and you will usually find a buyer for whatever you choose.

Here’s the before photo:

Anyway I hope you are all going okay. I am staying sane with my bootcamp and lots of walks and a few runs in Callan Park.

What have you been up to? I’d love to hear how you are going?

A beautiful sideboard in duck egg blue

Hi! It’s been forever since I’ve blogged. Life’s got very busy with the kids growing up fast and my business getting busier and busier.

I thought I’d share this sideboard I sourced and painted for Elizabeth.

It looks so beautiful on her serene bedroom.

How amazing is that mirror above it! The pops of gold really makes the room sparkle.

I’ll be writing some tutorials and other blogs posts soon. Get back in the habit of things.
Hope you are still reading

Hi I thought I’d pop in and update you in some recent pieces I have for sale. Some beautiful things❤️

These two French antique side tables are so versatile. They are sold separately and look good in a corner for a lamp or vase of flowers, as bedside tables or even in the bathroom for extra storage.

Some beautiful homewares

Good morning, if you follow me on social media you might know I have been selling some beautiful vintage homewares. I love this new arm to my business. It’s a lot of work but not as back breaking as painting furniture and also allows customers to spend small amounts of money with me instead of the more substantial outlay for furniture. I post a lot of the items so followers from the country and interstate have been buying pieces.

I thought I’d share some of my latest pieces.

Vintage crystal cruet set (sold)

Beautiful wine holder and ice bucket (both sold)

Above is an Art Deco bone handled entire cutlery set (available $85)

This fish set is amazing - each matching knife and fork have a different flower pattern engraved on it. So beautiful (sold)

A Victorian jam container with ornate lid. I think this is pressed glass not crystal. So lovely. (Sold)

Vintage cutlery: the timber cheese knife second from the back is available ($20)

A lovely vintage silverplate shallow bowl with a heavily embossed design and scalloped edge. Made by walker and Hall England. Perfect for fruit or display. 24cm diameter

These silverplate gravy boat, bowl and milk jugs have all sold.

And lastly some little vintage ink wells that are $60 for the pair. A perfect unique gift.

What are your favourites? There a few pieces I would have loved to keep; the little French pate knives, the engraved ice bucket and the flower cutlery set. You can’t keep them all and I have bills to pay :)

Have a lovely day

Painted vintage bedroom furniture Lilyfield Life

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I’m trashed this afternoon after bootcamp at 7am today. Amy had us doing hill sprints and then loss of push-ups, burpees and squats. My fitness is improving every day but it’s a tough gig :)

I thought I’d share some recent pieces I have painted. These beautiful drawers for a fresh white makeover.

I used rub n buff in the handles to spruce them up. I love this look. So fresh and bright. I have used a satin enamel on these drawers so they are easy to clean and take care of.

The drawer interiors were pristine so I left them timber. Someone asked why I didn’t paint them but if I can save some work which in turn saves the buyer money then that’s good news.

These beautiful vintage bedsides in pale grey were bought by a customer in Toowoomba.

With this matching bench.

These bench is from Denmark. It was actually a weird low console.

It looked nice but was a weird height, too high for a bench, too low for a dressing table. So I removed the middle section and turned it into a bench. I painted it pale grey to match the bedsides and off it went to Toowoomba also.

I thought I’d also share this incredible mirror I sold. It was such a beautiful piece. Just amazing!

Thanks for all your lovely comments and emails. I’m a bit behind in responding but will get on top of things soon.
Hope you have a beautiful weekend
