Navy chalk paint and lots of flowers

I hope you all had a good weekend. It seems to fly by so quickly. This last weekend we had no kids sport on so it was a little less busy than normal although I had a lot of furniture pickups and deliveries. Saturday morning Phil and I went for a walk in the park and then breakfast at our local cafe and our weekly shopping at the farmers market. It was nice to not be rushing off to sport. The markets are full of spring produce and the flower stall is, of course, my favourite.

I have been crushing on navy again and painted two chests of drawers last week in a deep navy paint. The bow front drawers sold before I could list it and the other one is sold pending.

Beautiful cedar bow front drawers.

(I actually had two bow front drawers last week - both sold)

These drawers below are a solid timber with a walnut veneer. The veneer was in perfect condition so I just had to sand and not remove or repair.  I've taken a deposit on these drawers so I'm sure they have sold, but if you are interested in being Next in Line, just message me.

and before - this piece had a broken handle but I had a few spares of the exact same handle in my stash so it was a good buy and an easy fix. Never throw anything away - you never know when it might come in handy :)

Our garden is looking lovely. My grandad's orchids are thriving this year. I re-potted them about a month ago and fertilized them and have been watering them. Ha ha who would have thought that this love and care would work. I've been rewarded with lots of flowers.

This frond broke off so I bought it inside. I don't usually like cutting flowers from the garden but it's also nice to have some in our hallway.

Have a lovely week. I have lots of painting to do as always. Lucky I love it so much

  2. Good morning Fiona,
I have they same type of Orchid as the one you have on your email.
I hate picking them, however when they are just past there best on the plant I pick them and submerse the whole stem in a glass cylinder about the same length as the stem, they will then last up to 6 weeks as beautiful as when you picked them.
Hope you or one of your viewers can enjoy them as much as my wife and I do.
Also I recently spent 3 months in Europe, mainly Italy in particular the Amalfi region and Santorini, every time I got one of your travel emails, I found myself drooling. What a wonderful experience for your children.
    Take care and kind regards
    Bob Walker.

    1. Thanks so much Bob for your lovely email. I am going to pick a few fronds today then as I really want some of my grandad’s orchids next to my bed. Thanks for the tip.
I’m so glad the Italy blogs posts brought back good memories. Gosh we had a good time.
      Have a good weekend

  3. Hi Fiona - just love all your navy painting. I have found the chalk paint navy not as dark as I would like but once it's waxed in the dark wax it has a beautiful depth to it otherwise it looks a bit peacocky. Have you had to custom mix to get a deep navy? Cheers Sue

    1. Hi Sue
Yes ASCP Napoleonic blue isn’t a true navy unless you finish it with dark wax. I also use a porters navy which to be honest I prefer as it’s a bit deeper. Also I find with navy you need more coats of paint than you would think to get the correct hue,
      Hope that helps
