I took sometime out this morning to go for a long walk and think and to relish in how good life can be. To be grateful for small things, happiness and the wonderful people in your life.
Especially when people so close to us are experience such tragedy. These NSW fires are so terrible and Sydney is clouded in a smokey haze. It's so hot today and I can't stop thinking about the people losing their homes and about the firefighters. How hot and exhausted they must be. Hoping rain comes soon but it's not looking likely.
My sweet girl has been having some major orthodontic work lately. She's a petite frame and her mouth is very small so she's got barbaric contraptions expanding her palette and pulling her top part of her jaw forward. She's brave and stoic but I know she's feeling fragile. When she was being fitted with a metal face mask the other day, I was asked to go settle the bill and I walked back into to see her with the contraption on her face and my face must have fallen as she brightly said "It's ok Mummy, it's really comfortable!" It isn't and she wakes every morning in pain but I love that she tried to protect me. Growing up a lot lately.
When I was out walking, I picked a little bunch of lavender to brighten up her day.
She understands that love often comes in small gestures

We have another patient in the house also. Poor Charlie has to have a little dental procedure tomorrow requiring general anaesthetic. He getting some extra attention and cuddles today also.

I'm working this afternoon on transforming a pair of pine bedsides with white paint. It's too hot to paint outside, I've got a dropsheet down in the lounge room.
Life is so full of both happiness and tragedy isn't it. And often from tragedy really good things arise - strong communities, fresh beginnings, hope and gratitude. But I'm sure the people facing the fires don't feel that at the moment but it's a good prompt for me to be grateful and appreciative of the beauty of small things and the love of my family.

I hope you and your loved ones are all safe

The fires there were on our national news a few evenings ago...I thought about you then and hoped you weren't too impacted. Thoughts and prayers are with all who are being affected.

We are fine thanks Robin but hundreds in the bush and country aren't. Doesn't help that Australia is a big dry land!
DeleteHey Fiona, how lovely is your little gal? Would love to do a coffee soon, Mondays & Wednesdays are best for me - how about you? Talk soon, Mx

Karen
It's a tough gig Karen but thankfully she doesn't complain much. god help me if it was Jonty!
DeleteI remember braces - yuck - Panadol and lots of cuddles really helped! Poor little Charlie - lots of cuddles for him too! We're getting a lot of smoke 'round our parts too - just so sad for people who have lost precious momentos, and the poor firemen - must be exhausted. Keep smiling, all things are passing :-)
ReplyDeletethe brace and mouth expander aren't too bad Petra, it's more the metal facemask she has to wear at night. very hard. but will be worth it . none of her teeth line up so it makes eating hard!
Deletehopefully the fires stop soon, very tragic

your poor little girl. Hope she is sleeping. Luckily we aren't affected by the fires but we have friends in the Blue Mountains so are watching the news with bated breath. Beautiful lavender and photos as always. You are a good mum, Beth x

I remember those braces days clearly. An uncle in England told me I looked like a martian with the headgear - still stings! I hope she is feeling better soon. Lovely post, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletethanks so much, my father in law teased her about having an antenna. some people just don't think before they speak! but hopefully she'll end up with a wide enough mouth and a good bite so we are hanging in there. Fiona xx
