Un-Decorated House

As much as I love decorating for Christmas, by the time we are home from our post Christmas holidays, I'm very ready for the un-decorate process.  The house seems to breathe a sigh of relief when it is relieved of the Christmas paraphernalia. Living in the Inner West in our small houses here, it's definitely good to pull the tree down and have the extra room available in the lounge room.

I have a hard time arranging furniture in our long narrow lounge room. It's slightly too narrow for nice furniture placement. I'm not too worried though as it's probably only a problem for another year or so until we renovate. That is, if we can ever come to terms with spending the amount of money required to renovate this house. I just wish I could do it myself.

I've spent the last couple of days washing clothes and tidying the house. My kids have too many clothes that no longer fit them. Both are growing too fast! We'll have to do a bit sort out and cull for hand-me-downs.

My dad gave me this little pewter mug for Christmas. It was my grandfather's from WW2. It's got his rank and name inscribed on it. Dad said I'd know how to clean it up but he then added that I'd probably like it how it is. He's very right about that. I love having this along with Grandad's serviette ring. Amazing to think of where they have been and how my grandad must have been going through at the time he was using them. Strange that in times of such horror they would come back to the officer's mess and still use such beautiful items.

Once everything is organised I'll start painting again. I have some lovely pieces to paint and I'm quite excited about starting again. I find painting so relaxing and creative.  One of my first jobs is to finish this beautiful mirror. I have had some issues with it that I'll explain when I've finished it and some conclusions I've come to during the process.  I will be keeping this mirror for our bedroom.

Speaking of our bedroom, I've put away a mountain of clothes and junk that accumulate on top of our dresser. I wish I could keep it this tidy all the time. Enjoying it while I can!

Our dining room is one room that stays neat all year round. I like that it's the one of the first rooms you see when you walk into the house. It's almost always a nice presentation and welcome.

I hope you all have a lovely day. Now that I'm on top of my chores and settled back into home, I'm taking the kids to laser tag with a friend and her kids. She's booked us in to play also. She says she wants to see my commando moves from my years in the military. That'll be a laugh.
