Painted Pine Sideboard before and after

It's a drizzly Saturday morning here in Sydney but my thoughts are in Paris with the terrible situation there. Desperate times it seems.

I'm sharing today a sideboard that Sharon asked me to paint ASCP Paris Grey. The photos aren't the best as I couldn't get the light even over the sideboard but you get the idea.

Below you can see the difference that the wax makes. It deepens the colour and adds sheen to the otherwise matte paint.

I sprayed the handles with an etch primer and then painted ASCP Graphite and waxed them.

Here's the before photo.

  1. Hi Fiona!
Terrible Paris news, yes. I'm afraid to hear more, so much to worry about. Unbelievable.
I wanted to ask you - not sure if this is an unknown product (to me) or just a different turn of phrase: 'etch primer'. Is this something (acid-ish?) specific for use on metal, or is a good metal primer the comparable thing to use? Tinted, or?
Let me know about this - your 'imperfect' photos are just as informative as ever and those drawer pulls - wow!

  5. Ok thanks Fiona, I'm just in the process of painting a mantel piece and I used Paris Grey and Old White to highlight the decorative features of the mantel. Would you say those colours work well together?

    1. Personally I find old white a bit too yellow creamy for my house as I have used lots of stark white and greys but really it's all personal prefer eve. Do you like it?
