Which hall cupboard shall I keep?

I've just finished painting a lovely solid cupboard and as I was taking photos of it to sell, I thought perhaps I should keep it??  Help me decide....

The new one

Great storage: These are beautiful quilts that are made by the women in my family. The top is a little blanket my mum made, then next is a quilt my aunt made, on the bottom shelf on the top is the beautiful Thousand Triangles quilt my mum made me for my 30th birthday and then underneath that is a quilt I made out of Laura Ashley material that I started when I was 17 and then found it and finished when I was 40.  I will have to share all these quilts and more one day.

The painting in the wooden frame is one I did when I was living in London in 2002. It's of a little corner of the inside of Saint Bartholomew the Great, which is one of London's oldest churches. It was founded in 1123 as an Augustinian Priory and has been in continuous use as a place of worship since at least 1143.

I replaced the original handles with these vintage French crackle porcelain ones.

The cabinet when I bought it - minus the Spanish style round iron handles.

and here is how the hall was previously.  I think my husband will vote for the new one as he's never been that keen on this one.

What do you think?

  1. While the first one has more storage, my vote is for the second. Love the lines!

  2. LOVE the first one, but...do you drop your car keys, cameras, chargers etc in the drawers on the first one? If so, where would they go? Could you (or hubby, lol) be bothered opening a cupboard to put them away? Not sure I have helped much, have I!

    1. hi Karen -the drawers are just full of bike pumps and locks and other random crap. we actually don't leave our wallets or keys here as I'm forever leaving our front door open (when I'm at home or out, hopeless) and so we leave everything in the study on the sideboard there which is in the middle of the house and much harder to steal from. LOL. (now I've told everyone on the internet!). So the storage isnt really a problem. but I am keen to put the kids school bags in the cupboard so the first one is looking like a winner.
      thanks!

  3. i like both, but the first one is my fave. i like that it has doors and hidden storage, plus it seems to fill the space better. can't wait to see which one you pick!

    1. I'm really leaning towards the new one also Tammy, mainly because I don't have any of my more "ornate" handpainted pieces - all the other bits i've kept don't have a design on them - and I don't like seeing the cords of the lamp! thanks for pitching in!

  6. I'm with your hubby and would keep the new one. They're both pretty, but the new one makes more of a statement, in my opinion.
