The abundance of spring at Saturday markets

Poppies at Orange Grove markets

Amazing weather this time of year. I know it will probably get cold again but it feels like summer already. Perhaps I've just forgotten how hot is gets.  There's no better place to feel the abundance of spring than at farmers' markets. We are lucky to live very close to the Orange Grove Markets held each Saturday morning.

The fresh produce is amazing.
I just wanted to share these iPhone snaps with you. If you are still buying your fruit and veggies at supermarkets, why not try getting to a local farmers' market next time. You will be surprised at the variety and quality - and prices.

Each week we buy our weekly fruit and vegetables, some heritage chicken eggs to supplement our own chickens produce, sourdough bread, goats curd, a bunch of flowers and herbs. We also often buy really good quality meat. And usually a Turkish gozleme but we've wined and dined so much this week that we didn't buy it this morning! We had some wonderful friends stay as they waited for their car to be imported. They have set off on a year long adventure driving from Sydney overland (and a few boats) across Asia, Russia and Europe. This is our same friend who climbed Mount Everest and the other of the 7 Peaks (the highest mountains of each continent). They are also travelling to the seven lows. They'll go to Lake Eyre while here in Australia. Talk about interesting people. We've had a blast of a week but I'm totally trashed now!

The flowers look beautiful on my sideboard.
Just a whisper of pink.

Been to any good markets today?
What did you buy?

Wishing you a lovely weekend!

  2. wow those markets look amazing, wish we had decent ones like that here! The shot with the lavender in it is my favourite...I've given up on growing lavender here, it just goes messy and straggly . I pulled it all out a few weeks ago and planed gardenias in their place, they will make a lovely short hedge underneath my iceberg roses (I hope!)

    1. The orange grove markets just keep getting better and better Karen. Next time you are in Sydney, come with me. Lavender is hard for me to grow also. I have some in a pot by my front door. It was doing terrible but is much improved now I've started watering it regularly!. Love gardenias also. Good luck with it.

  7. Gorgeous looking flowers and fruit/veg. We were up in Noosa on the weekend, and popped into the markets there held every Saturday. Well, the food was amazing - we had LOTS of pastries from a gorgeous little French bakery called French Sin, all baked onsite by a French guy. Wow! Couldn't get flowers because we were camping but we bought lots of gorgeous smelling soaps instead!
