Another Bird Chest of Drawers

I've painted a few pieces of furniture with this design previously and always love what it does for a transformation. Miss Mustard Seed's bird dresser was my inspiration and I loved her tutorial on it, but I've seen so many birds on dresser on the web and I always love them.

This chest of drawer has a lovely utilitarian shape, great storage and the drawers are well made and slide smoothly.  I have replaced the handles with vintage porcelain handles that are made in Limoges, France (and stamped as such).  I wasn't going to replace the handles but I bought the piece at auction and between the time I placed my bid and when I went to pick it up, someone had stolen one of the knobs. Very annoying.  Oh well, these French handles I've used are much nicer anyway...

The chest of drawers has been painted in a crisp white chalk paint with the detail painted in a soft french grey.  I then gave it a top coat of my favourite (expensive!) wax and then sanded it until it is velvety soft.  I love the finish my furniutre has these days.  Experience gained by all the painting I'm doing is paying off.

The drawers have been lined with a cute heart and swirl paper.
...and the bottom drawer has a little surprise in it.

The piece has been distressed to add to the rustic look.

This piece is for sale, please let me know if you are interested. It would look fabulous in a child's room or nursery.

I've had to edit this as I forgot to add the before photo (and every one likes a good before and after, don't they!).  It obviously wasn't a beloved piece. One woman told me that she spends her life REMOVING paint off furniture...and she even said "..but you can paint that!"

On a personal note, I am two day into a juice fast (to kick starting my detox) and I'm struggling big time with headaches and nausea.  I usually drink way too much diet coke and the withdrawals are killing me.  But it's keeping me motivated to continue as I'm so glad these toxins are leaving my body.  On a positive note, I'm loving the green juice (spinach, cucumber, celery, lemon, half an apple and ginger).  We have made fresh vegie juice almost every morning for the past 4 years but I haven't had this particular combination before and it honestly tastes just like LIFE in a glass. I'll keep you posted with my progress.

Have a great weekend
cheers Fiona

Are you making your own chalk paint or have you managed to get your hands on some ASCP?

    1. hi Karen - thanks so much. I'm hoping it sells quickly as I have loads of extra funiture at the moment in the house and my husband's patience will only extend so far.
No, I haven't been able to get my hands on some ASCP but am really happy with the stuff I'm making so it will suffice until ASCP is available in australia!

  6. My spouse and i have been absolutely more than happy when Ervin could finish off his studies with the precious recommendations he received from your own web page. It's not at all simplistic to just happen to be releasing tips which other folks could have been trying to sell. And we also fully grasp we now have the blog owner to be grateful to for that. These explanations you made, the simple website navigation, the relationships your site give support to promote - it is everything excellent, and it's really facilitating our son and us consider that that article is thrilling, and that is seriously indispensable. Thank you for all the pieces!

  8. I'm pinning it as well! What an awesome dresser! Your post inclines me to use waxes more. What do you use to buff the wax with? I've found it to be so labor intensive... (?) Good luck with the cleanse! I need to do one of those myself. :)
