I have just finished painting this lovely old sideboard. I had a think about painting it another colour or doing a design on it but it felt to me as though it was crying out for plain white. I think it suits the lines of the piece. Does furniture speak to you? or am I just a little crazy?
I bought an orbital sander this week. I have always sanded every thing by hand. I am in love this this power tool. It leaves a silky smooth finish in no time at all, a finish that normally takes me hours of sanding.
The 2 drawers are dovetailed and well made, sturdy and slide very well. One has some divisions for cutlery. They are lovely and deep and would hold heaps.
I love this vintage cutlery set that I bought years ago. The handles are hollow and have a lovely weight and feel. Unfortunately my husband keeps putting them in the dishwasher and the heat has made the glue come unstuck on some of them. I'll have to work out how to repair them. I shouldn't complain though as he does clean the kitchen and stack the dishwasher every night :)
These little white and blue willow tree pattern napkins were made and embroidered by my maternal grandmother, Jessie. I never knew her as she died when I was a baby but I love that I have something that she made and spent time on. This is the real beauty of handicrafts, isn't it?
The sideboard has a lovely decorative trim around the top.
The sideboard is for sale.
