Turquoise Chest of Drawers and a Bali Holiday

Today I painted a sweet little chest of drawers in a beautiful turquoise blue. My inspiration was the the holiday I'm planning.

I have spent last 2 days organising flights and hotels for a trip to Bali. I'm very excited but have to say it's been quite hard work organising it all (how spoilt is that! Such a first world problem to have....). But seriously it's taken about 15 hours or research. I think it may have been easier in days before the internet when you were given a lot less choice and information, and you just went with what a travel agent recommended.

After looking at all the beautiful hotel pools and beaches of Bali, I thought I'd paint this one in a turquoise peacock blue that I have in my paint stash.

I really like the vintage handles on this dresser. They are a great shape. The drawers are all dovetailed and slide well.

This little wooden vintage teddy of my son's is a perfect colour match.  It cracks me up how sad the teddy looks. Why would they make him like that?

and before.

This is for sale. If you are interested please let me know. It would be perfect for a kids room.

So who has been to Bali before? Where did you stay? What are the "must do - must see" things?

cheers
Fiona

  1. OMG! Love Bali!

Brings back memories of my honeymoon there 11 years ago.

We stayed at the Melia in Nusa Dua and it was heaven. Did day trips to the volcano, temples, monkey forest (avoid monkey forest it was freaking me out and it was gross) Uluwatu at sunset, Ubud, silver mines.

Stock up on silver jewellery - so cheap and genuine.

Do go to Ubud, it is gorgeous and arty - relaxing. I mostly hung in Nusa Dua and Ubud - thought Kuta was dirty and busy.

Enjoy! Wish I was organising a trip there, one day after renos and school fees!

    1. hi Meg - I have actually travelled all around the world but never been to a place with a swim up bar. i'm more of a backpacker traveller than resort girl...
      can't wait!!

    1. thanks Cassie, I have a friend at school who always says you need to paint more turquoise!! sure makes things look good doesn't it. and only 2 coats rather than the 3-4 white usually requires.

  5. Cute drawers, and yeah such a funny face on Ted! I have been to Bali twice, but in um...1995 and 1999, a lifetime ago! We stayed in Kuta both times, once at the Bounty Hotel and the other I can't remember. Loved it though, had a ball....was in my 20's, childfree and carefree! Would love to go back one day...but it would be right up there with Phuket (Patong Beach), where Geoff and I honeymooned. I found both to be quite similar in lots of ways (I didn't know Geoff when I went to Bali, in fact we were kind of getting together at the time I had my last trip there in '99, but that is a whole other story, lol!)

  7. Stunning re-do! I'm so loving that color! It's my fave at the moment. Was that a laminate top?? Hard to tell. Looks shiny. Did you sand the piece prior to painting?? And did you brush or spray?? Sorry for 20 questions,,,,I like to see what does and doesn't work!! :) Beth

    1. thanks Beth - it's a full timber chest of drawers - no laminate. I always sand and it's hand painted. (i don't have a sprayer and not really into the look of spray paint anyway).
      cheers Fiona
