Kids Party Ideas - GIVEAWAY

My first giveaway!

We were out to dinner with good friends last week and they were telling us about their son's birthday which had been that afternoon. We asked if they'd had the ten little boys at their house (which was looking rather tidy) and my friend said "oh no, we outsource our parties".  It got me thinking...Phil and I aren't very good at outsourcing anything. I think that's the problem when two engineers marry, they think they can (and have to) do everything themselves.  We have always hosted our own parties and put a great deal of effort into them - as well as undertaking some massive home project at the same time - like rebuilding and painting the pergola, upholstering the lounge or repainting the lounge room - all done on the eve of parties.

Anyway despite the mad effort, I do love hosting a themed birthday party for my kids.    Over the years we've had mermaid, spiderman, jungle, rapunzel and craft parties. My favourite party was my son's third birthday - a pirate theme.
Home made costumes for the family
Decorate the backyard - lots of balloons

appropriately themed table and cake
he didn't want the main cake iced...we used a home-made stencil and icing sugar

home made pirate cupcakes
happy kids
To celebrate this DIY party mentality, I have a copy of The Australian Woman's Weekly Kid's Perfect Party Book to give away. This beautiful book is a great source of ideas, inspiration and recipes.  It's divided into party themes with innovative ideas for invitations, dress-ups, games, table decorations, the food, take-home treats, and of course, the cake all created to match the party theme. Complete with easy-to-follow recipes and projects as well as a pattern sheet, the KIDS' PERFECT PARTY BOOK is the ultimate party companion.

  8. What an awesome birthday party. You really went all out. It takes commitment to host your child's party. Too many parents can't be bothered. Well done!
